Gross monthly pay before deductions (NPS/AFPP fund, CGEGIS, income tax). Field, high-altitude, risk, ration and other special allowances are not included.
How the calculator works
- Basic pay comes from the 7th CPC Defence Pay Matrix (Army, Navy, Air Force) or the Civil Pay Matrix (CAPF). Each cell is the previous cell × 1.03, rounded to the nearest ₹100, which reproduces the official figures, e.g. Level 3 runs from ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 in 40 cells. Confirmed
- DA = 60% of (basic pay + MSP). MSP counts for DA and pension. Confirmed We have not found an order putting X Group pay in the DA base, so the calculator leaves it out. Unverified
- HRA = 30% (X), 20% (Y) or 10% (Z) of basic pay, with minimums of ₹5,400, ₹3,600 and ₹1,800. MSP is not counted for HRA. Confirmed
- Transport allowance = ₹7,200 / ₹3,600 (Level 9+), ₹3,600 / ₹1,800 (Levels 3-8), plus DA on it, in the 19 higher-rate cities / elsewhere, as set by the DoE OM of 7 July 2017. Confirmed The calculator applies the same rates to the armed forces; we have not yet checked the MoD letter. Unverified
- X Group pay = ₹6,200 for trades equivalent to an AICTE diploma, ₹3,600 for other X Group trades (JCOs/OR only). Confirmed

CAPF ranks are paid on the Civil Pay Matrix, commonly Constable Level 3, Head Constable 4, ASI 5, SI 6, Inspector 7, Assistant Commandant 10, Deputy Commandant 11, Second-in-Command 12, Commandant 13, DIG 13A and IG 14. There is no MSP for CAPF. Unverified

What the 8th Pay Commission may change
The 8th CPC will set a new pay matrix and fitment factor for the armed forces and CAPF alike, and DA will restart from zero when it takes effect. Until then, any 8th CPC salary is an illustration.
