Income tax, professional tax (where a State levies it), CGHS contribution and other recoveries are not deducted. Estimate
How each allowance is worked out
- DA: 60% of basic pay from 1 January 2026. Confirmed
- HRA: 30% of basic in X, 20% in Y and 10% in Z cities now that DA has crossed 50%, but not less than ₹5,400, ₹3,600 and ₹1,800. Not payable if you live in government accommodation. Confirmed
- Transport allowance: ₹7,200 a month in the higher-rate cities and ₹3,600 elsewhere, plus DA. The higher rate applies in Hyderabad, Patna, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kozhikode, Indore, Greater Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Jaipur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow and Kolkata (urban agglomerations). Not payable if government transport is provided. Officers in Level 14 and above who are entitled to an official car may instead opt for ₹15,750 a month plus DA (₹25,200 at DA 60%); the option has to be certified by the administrative Ministry and cannot be changed during the current assignment. Confirmed
- NPS / UPS: employees who joined on or after 1 January 2004 contribute 10% of basic pay plus DA. Old pension scheme employees subscribe to GPF instead, at a rate they choose (minimum 6% of basic). Estimate
- CGEGIS: Group C ₹30, Group B ₹60 and Group A ₹120 a month. The rate changes from the January after you move to a new group. The Group A and B rates come from the 1989 CGEGIS order, which we could not open on an official site, so check your pay slip.

The 8th Central Pay Commission was set up by Gazette resolution on 3 November 2025 and has 18 months to report, so its report is due around May 2027. No fitment factor has been announced. The 7th CPC used 2.57. The table multiplies today’s Level 17 basic pay by 2.57 and 2.86 only to show the range people discuss. Estimate
| Level 17 pay | Basic now | × 2.57 (illustration) | × 2.86 (illustration) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed pay | ₹2,25,000 | ₹5,78,250 | ₹6,43,500 |
Estimate, not an official figure. A new pay matrix would round pay into its own cells, and DA would restart at 0% on the new basic, so the real gain is smaller than the multiplication suggests: at the fixed pay you already draw ₹3,60,000 as basic + DA today.
