ESTIMATE – not an official pay table. The 8th Central Pay Commission has not submitted its recommendations, and no fitment factor or new pay matrix has been announced (checked 13 October 2026). Every “8th CPC” figure on this page is our arithmetic on today’s 7th CPC pay, using three illustrative fitment factors. Labels: Confirmed = official source linked; Estimate = our calculation.
“How much will my basic pay become?” is the question we get most often from employees in Levels 1 to 10, which covers everyone from Multi-Tasking Staff to a directly recruited Group A officer. Nobody can give the real answer yet, because it depends on a fitment factor the Commission has not recommended and the Government has not accepted. What we can do is show you the method and the range. This guide replaces our two older posts on Group B salaries and the Levels 1–10 hike, and uses the same three factors as our 8th Pay Commission salary calculator: 1.86, 2.0 and 2.57.
Where the 8th Pay Commission stands

The method: how revised basic pay is worked out
A pay commission revision has two steps.
- Multiply. Your existing basic pay is multiplied by the fitment factor. In the 7th CPC this factor was 2.57: Rule 7 of the CCS (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016 multiplied the old basic pay (pay in pay band plus grade pay) by 2.57 and rounded it to the nearest rupee [Confirmed, DoE, CCS (RP) Rules 2016].
- Place in the matrix. The result is located in your Level of the new pay matrix. If an identical figure exists, that cell is your pay; if not, you go to the next higher cell. That is why real revised pay is usually slightly above the plain multiplication.
Our table does only step 1. Step 2 needs the new 8th CPC matrix, which does not exist yet, so the real figures will differ a little from ours even if one of these factors turns out to be right.
New basic pay (estimate) = current 7th CPC basic pay × fitment factor
7th CPC entry pay: the starting point
The table uses the first cell (entry pay) of each Level in the 7th CPC civilian pay matrix. These figures are official [Confirmed: 7th CPC Report, Table 5: Pay Matrix (Civilian Employees); PIB, 29 June 2016 for ₹18,000 and ₹56,100]. If you have had increments, use your actual basic pay from your pay slip instead.
Expected basic pay by Level, at three fitment factors (ESTIMATE)
| Level | 7th CPC entry pay (₹) – Confirmed | × 1.86 (₹) – Estimate | × 2.0 (₹) – Estimate | × 2.57 (₹) – Estimate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 18,000 | 33,480 | 36,000 | 46,260 |
| 2 | 19,900 | 37,014 | 39,800 | 51,143 |
| 3 | 21,700 | 40,362 | 43,400 | 55,769 |
| 4 | 25,500 | 47,430 | 51,000 | 65,535 |
| 5 | 29,200 | 54,312 | 58,400 | 75,044 |
| 6 | 35,400 | 65,844 | 70,800 | 90,978 |
| 7 | 44,900 | 83,514 | 89,800 | 1,15,393 |
| 8 | 47,600 | 88,536 | 95,200 | 1,22,332 |
| 9 | 53,100 | 98,766 | 1,06,200 | 1,36,467 |
| 10 | 56,100 | 1,04,346 | 1,12,200 | 1,44,177 |
Method: entry pay × factor, rounded to the nearest rupee. No pay-matrix placement, DA, HRA or other allowances are included.
Increase in basic pay (ESTIMATE)
| Level | Increase at 1.86 (₹) | Increase at 2.0 (₹) | Increase at 2.57 (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 15,480 | 18,000 | 28,260 |
| 2 | 17,114 | 19,900 | 31,243 |
| 3 | 18,662 | 21,700 | 34,069 |
| 4 | 21,930 | 25,500 | 40,035 |
| 5 | 25,112 | 29,200 | 45,844 |
| 6 | 30,444 | 35,400 | 55,578 |
| 7 | 38,614 | 44,900 | 70,493 |
| 8 | 40,936 | 47,600 | 74,732 |
| 9 | 45,666 | 53,100 | 83,367 |
| 10 | 48,246 | 56,100 | 88,077 |
Why these three factors?
- 2.57 is the actual factor the 7th CPC used [Confirmed]. Using it again is a useful upper reference, not a prediction.
- 2.0 is a round middle case that doubles basic pay, which makes the arithmetic easy to check.
- 1.86 is a lower case our calculator includes.
Unions and staff associations have asked for higher factors in their memoranda. Those are demands (Proposed), not decisions, and we have kept them out of the table. See our fitment factor explainer for the debate.
A note on “salary hike” versus “basic pay hike”
The jump in basic pay is not the jump in take-home pay. At every pay commission so far, the Dearness Allowance accumulated up to the revision date has been absorbed into the new basic pay, and DA has started again from a low base. So part of the higher basic pay simply replaces DA you already receive. Your real gain is the new basic plus new DA and allowances, minus what you get today. The comparison in the tables above is basic-to-basic only, so it overstates the take-home increase. When the 8th CPC report and the Government’s acceptance are published, we will replace these estimates with the notified figures.
Example: a Level 8 employee at entry pay
Take a Group B employee at the first cell of Level 8, basic pay ₹47,600 [Confirmed entry pay]:
- At 1.86: ₹47,600 × 1.86 = ₹88,536 [Estimate]
- At 2.0: ₹47,600 × 2.0 = ₹95,200 [Estimate]
- At 2.57: ₹47,600 × 2.57 = ₹1,22,332 [Estimate]
If this employee has had five increments and now draws a higher basic, enter that figure in the calculator instead of the entry pay.
Group A, B and C: which Levels are which?
Group classification follows the post’s Level. Under DoPT Order S.O. 3578(E) dated 9 November 2017, civil posts at Levels 10 to 18 are Group A, Levels 6 to 9 are Group B, and Levels 1 to 5 are Group C [Confirmed, DoPT OM dated 08.12.2017]. So Levels 1–10 cover all of Group C, all of Group B and the entry Level of Group A. The PIB release on the 7th CPC described ₹56,100 as the starting salary of “a freshly recruited Class I officer” [Confirmed]. Posts in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department are outside that DoPT order, and some cadres have approved exceptions, so check your appointment order or pay slip for your exact Level.
What to watch next
- Submission of the 8th CPC report, due within 18 months of 3 November 2025 [Confirmed timeline].
- Government acceptance and a notified pay matrix. Only then will exact cell values exist.
- The effective date and any arrears. See our arrears calculation guide.
Frequently asked questions
Has the 8th Pay Commission fitment factor been fixed?
No. As of 13 October 2026, the Commission has not submitted its report and no factor has been announced.
What will be the minimum basic pay under the 8th CPC?
Unknown. On our three illustrative factors, today’s ₹18,000 would become ₹33,480, ₹36,000 or ₹46,260 [Estimate].
Why do other websites show different numbers?
Because they assume different factors. Any table that does not show its factor and method should be treated with caution.
Does this table include DA and HRA?
No. It shows basic pay only. Allowances will be set by the 8th CPC and the Government.
When will the new pay be paid?
Not announced. PIB said the effect would “normally be expected” from 1 January 2026, based on past trend; the actual date depends on the Government’s decision on the report.
Can I calculate my own figure?
Yes. Use our 8th CPC salary calculator with your current basic pay.
