8thpaycalculator.in/ publishes calculators, trackers and news for Central Government employees, defence personnel and pensioners in India. Readers use our pages to estimate pay, pension and allowances, so we hold ourselves to one rule above all others: tell the reader what is official, what is not yet decided, and how we know. This page explains how we do that.
We are independent. 8thpaycalculator.in/ is not a Government of India website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or funded by any ministry, department, pay commission, staff union or pensioners' association.
1. Where our information comes from
We go to the official source first and cite it on the page. In order of preference:
- Official orders and notifications, such as Office Memorandums (OMs), Gazette notifications, resolutions and circulars, from the issuing body:
- Department of Expenditure (DoE), Ministry of Finance: DA, HRA, other allowances and pay fixation
- Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT): service rules, MACP, leave, promotions
- Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW): CCS (Pension) Rules, DR for pensioners, family pension, commutation
- 8th Central Pay Commission (8cpc.gov.in): composition, Terms of Reference, notices and consultation schedule
- PFRDA and the Department of Financial Services: NPS and the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS)
- CGHS (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare): CGHS rates, cards and reimbursement
- Railway Board: orders for railway employees, including Productivity Linked Bonus
- Ministry of Defence: orders for defence personnel and defence pensioners
- Finance Department, Government of Rajasthan: for our Rajasthan 7th Pay Commission calculator
- Official releases and data: Press Information Bureau (PIB) releases on Cabinet decisions, written replies in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and the monthly All-India CPI-IW published by the Labour Bureau, which drives DA and DR.
- Secondary sources: staff-side circulars (for example, NC-JCM and federation letters) and reporting by established news organisations. We use these only to report what someone has said or demanded, and we label them clearly. They are never presented as a government decision.
We do not publish claims from social media forwards, unnamed “sources” or YouTube videos as fact. If a claim is widely circulating but has no official basis, we may write about it to say exactly that.
2. How we label information
Readers need to know at a glance whether a figure is final. Our news posts, trackers and guides use four labels:
- Confirmed Checked against an official government source, which we link. Example: a DA rate announced in a DoE OM or a PIB release.
- Proposed A demand, suggestion or recommendation that has not been accepted. Example: a fitment factor asked for by a staff union.
- Reported Carried by media or union circulars, but not found in a government document we could open.
- Estimate Our own calculation or projection, with the assumptions stated. Example: expected DA from CPI-IW data before the government announces it, or 8th CPC salary at a given fitment factor.
When the status of something changes (for example, an expected DA hike is announced), we update the label and the figure and add a dated update note.
3. How our calculators are built and checked
- Official rules first. Each calculator follows the rules that actually govern the result: the 7th CPC pay matrix and the Department of Expenditure’s DA, HRA and allowance orders for salary; the CCS (Pension) Rules and DoPPW orders for pension, family pension and commutation; the relevant state orders for the Rajasthan calculator. Rounding and level placement follow the official method for that rule.
- Assumptions are shown, not hidden. No 8th CPC pay matrix or fitment factor has been notified. Our 8th CPC calculators therefore work on scenarios (for example, fitment factors such as 1.86, 2.0 or 2.57) that the user can see and change. Results from these tools are estimates, not entitlements.
- Tested before release. Before a calculator goes live, and after any change to its formula, we run test cases across several pay levels and check the results by hand against the official order, and against worked examples where the government has published them.
- Updated when the rules change. When a new DA/DR rate, allowance revision or pension order is notified, we update the affected calculators and show the rate the tool is currently using.
- Limits stated plainly. Calculators cannot know every detail of an individual’s service record (pay protection, stepping up, deputation, special allowances, recoveries). Your Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO), Pay and Accounts Office (PAO) or pension disbursing authority makes the final calculation.
4. How often we review content
- DA/DR tracker and DA-linked calculators: checked after each monthly CPI-IW release by the Labour Bureau and immediately after any DA/DR announcement.
- 8th CPC timeline and news hub: checked when 8cpc.gov.in, PIB or Parliament publishes anything new, and at least once a month.
- Calculators: rechecked after every relevant order, and in a full review at least every six months.
- Guides (pension, UPS, CGHS, bonus and similar): reviewed at least every three months, and sooner when the rules change.
- News posts: kept as a record of what was known on the date of publication. If a later development changes the picture, we add a dated update at the top and link to the current page rather than silently rewriting the post.
Each page shows a “Last verified” or “Last updated” date so readers can judge how current it is.
5. Who writes and reviews our content
Content is researched, written and checked by the 8thpaycalculator.in/ Editorial Team. Before publication, every figure, date and order number is checked against the cited source. We do not use anonymous tips or unverified forwards as a basis for publishing figures.
6. Use of AI and automation
We may use software tools, including AI tools, to help with research, drafting and formatting. Every page is reviewed by the editorial team, and every factual claim is checked against the source before it is published. Tools do not decide what is Confirmed.
7. Independence, advertising and conflicts of interest
- The site may carry advertising to cover running costs. Advertisers have no say over what we write, and advertisements are visually separate from editorial content.
- We do not accept payment to publish, change or remove news, and we do not publish paid content presented as news.
- If we ever publish sponsored content or use affiliate links, they will be clearly marked as such.
- We are not a party to pay negotiations and do not take sides between the government and staff associations. We report what each side has said, with sources.
8. Corrections and feedback
If you find an error, please tell us. Our Corrections Policy explains how to report it and what happens next. For anything else, see Contact Us or write to editor@8thpaycalculator.in.
