Rumour vs Order: what PIB Fact Check has called fake
PIB Fact Check is the Government of India’s official fact-check unit. These are the claims about employees and pensioners that it has marked fake.
| Viral claim | Verdict | What is actually true |
|---|---|---|
| “Under the Finance Act 2025, retired employees will no longer get DA hikes or Pay Commission revisions” | PIB Fact Check: Fake PIB Fact Check, 13 Nov 2025 | No such change. The only amendment was to Rule 37 of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021. It covers employees absorbed in a PSU and later dismissed for misconduct. Pensioners keep getting DR every January and July (Akashvani News). |
| “Retirement age of central government employees raised from 60 to 62” | PIB Fact Check: Fake PIB Fact Check, 19 Nov 2024 | No order raises the retirement age. It is still 60 for most central government employees (The Quint fact check). |
Claims with no order behind them
These are not PIB fact checks. We checked them against the official orders ourselves.
| Claim | Where it stands (23 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| “July 2026 DA confirmed at 63%” (or 64%) | No Cabinet approval, no DoE order. 63% is only the formula result. Calculated, not announced |
| “8th CPC fitment factor fixed at 2.57 / 2.86 / 3.0” | No factor has been announced. 3.833 is a staff-side demand. Union demand |
| “50% DA merged with basic pay” | Parliament was told in December 2025 that no such proposal is under consideration. See the 8th CPC timeline. |
| “New 8th CPC salary from January 2026” | Not decided. The Commission has not reported. PIB only said the effect “would normally be expected” from 01.01.2026. |
Calculator safety: what we never ask for
8thpaycalculator.in never asks you to download an app, log in, share an OTP, or give your bank, PAN, Aadhaar or PPO details.
Our calculators run in your web browser. Nothing you type is needed to show a result. There is no “8th Pay Calculator” APK.
If a site, app or WhatsApp message asks for an OTP or bank details to “calculate your 8th CPC salary”, close it. Report it to the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
How to check if a DA order is real
- Look for a PIB Cabinet release on pib.gov.in. DA and DR rises are approved by the Union Cabinet first.
- Then look for the DoE office memorandum on the Department of Expenditure DA page. Its number looks like 1/1(i)/2026-E.II(B).
- Pensioners: DoPPW issues the matching DR order soon after.
- A screenshot, a YouTube thumbnail or a forwarded PDF with no link to these sites is not an order.
Status board FAQs
What is the current DA rate for central government employees?
60% of basic pay from 1 January 2026, under DoE OM No. 1/1(i)/2026-E.II(B) dated 22.04.2026. Pensioners get Dearness Relief at the same 60%.
Is the July 2026 DA confirmed?
No. As of 23 October 2026 there is no Cabinet approval and no DoE order for July 2026. The CPI-IW formula gives 63%, but that is a calculation, not an announcement.
Has the 8th Pay Commission fixed the fitment factor?
No. The Commission was set up on 3 November 2025 and has 18 months to report. No fitment factor, pay matrix or date of effect has been announced. 3.833 is a staff-side demand.
When will the 8th Pay Commission submit its report?
Within 18 months of its constitution on 3 November 2025, so around early May 2027. The government then decides what to accept.
Will pensioners stop getting DA hikes under the Finance Act 2025?
No. PIB Fact Check marked this claim fake on 13 November 2025. The only rule change affects absorbed PSU employees dismissed for misconduct.
Does 8thpaycalculator.in ask for OTP or bank details?
Never. Our calculators run in your browser and need no app, login, OTP, bank, PAN, Aadhaar or PPO details. Any app or message asking for these in our name is fake.
